Viva Grampians Pyrenees

Multicultural Food & Performances will take centre stage in a new festival coming to the Ararat Performing Arts Centre Forecourt this April. ‘Viva Grampians Pyrenees’, which will run from 10:30am – 3pm on 11th April 2010, is a celebration of the diverse mix of cultures living in this beautiful part of Victoria. The festival will feature a colourful range of food stalls, performances and workshops, many of which will be run by migrants who have settled in the region.

For the kids there will also be a jumping castle, face painting and henna tattoos, while adults will enjoy a selection of local wineries and breweries all offering tastings and sales throughout the day to compliment the food on offer.

Entry to the all age event is free and it will prove to be a great family activity on the last day of the Easter School Holidays. For enquires about the event contact Bruce Marshall at Ararat Rural City Council.

The Lake Goldsmith steam preservation society was established in the late 1950's, with a handful of remnant engines operating in a paddock nostalgically re-creating a bygone era...

Reflections: Moonambel Art Exhibition & Blue-Moon Market
Local artist Marjorie Venes of Lamplough and sculptor Kevin Free of Landsborough will exhibit their Pyrenees-inspired work in an exhibition to be mounted at the Moonambel Pavilion over the Weekend. The Weekend Occasion is presented by the energetic Moonambel arts group as part of their Yours for the Artsing series of arts-inspired occasions for everyone to join in and enjoy.
Come along to ‘Meet the artist’ on Sunday 2pm to 3.30pm and share a glass of local wine with nibbles. There will be live music, Devonshire teas and a raffle of Pyrenees wine and local products. VCOSS - Victorian Council of Social Services is pleased to present a workshop on: Running an effective community organisation - the legal role and responsibilities of people involved. The workshop is aimed at those involved in running a not-for-profit community organisation, whether they have recently joined a committee or board or have been involved for a period of time. Essentially the training is for any board or committee of management member who would like to know more about their role and the legal duties that come with helping to run a not-for-profit community organisation in Victoria.

As a result of completing the program, attendees will have an increased understanding of their community organisation, their role within the organisation. This will increase the capacity and capability of attendees to govern their organisation legally and effectively.
Participants will also learn about the further resources and services available for community organisations from both the VCOSS Clearinghouse and PilchConnect.

Moonambel 150th Anniversary

The 150th Anniversary of the Gold Rush and Town Settlement of Moonambel.
The party will coincide with the 'Party in the Pyrenees' fireworks display (held biennually).
The Moonambel School Welfare Association will stage a memorabilia display and the Public Hall will also have a display of historic photos and various relics.
There will be a play depicting the finding of gold by James and John Thomas to be staged at the Common by the local drama group.
Sunday morning will see a Thanksgiving Service held at the Common for the lives of the early pioneers who settled here. This is also where there will be an unveiling of a plaque to commemorate this occasion.

The Lake Goldsmith steam preservation society was established in the late 1950's, with a handful of remnant engines operating in a paddock nostalgically re-creating a bygone era...
From the point, the movement has advanced to the position, where, not only is it acclaimed as "Australia's premier steam rally", but to that of international recognition.
The Association's 38 acres site whilst being home to one the largest gatherings of historic machinery in Australia, also hosts visiting enthusiast groups, including car, truck, tractor and stationary engine clubs bringing an ever changing variety of exciting and unusual exhibits to our rallies.

A European Wine and Food Weekend. Join in the festivities focussing on local wines and the region's quality produce in european inspired dishes. Activities include an International Master-class, wine option challenge, petanque tournament, musicians and door prizes every hour. Pyrenees Magic Bike Ride

The ride known as Pyrenees Magic, leaves Avoca at 9:00 am on Saturday the 14th of November and takes in the townships of Moonambel, Landsborough, Elmhurst & Amphitheatre and back to Avoca, approx 100km ride. The aim of the ride is for each person to ride within their capability and have an enjoyable day out. Rest stops are provided at Landsborough and Elmhurst with drinks and snacks and in the event of not being able to complete the ride there is a “Sag wagon “to transport you back to the start point.
